The School of Professional Studies promotes students' leadership and career opportunities for success in a dynamic workplace through engaging interdisciplinary and career-focused credential and degree programs delivered online and on-campus. The faculty of Professional Studies is dedicated to supporting students' skills by integrating multiple knowledge bases essential for navigating the complex and interconnected challenges of today's world, particularly those that involve multiple disciplines. The curricula and programs in Professional Studies prepare students to address the interdisciplinary challenges requiring a holistic approach emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and life-long learning for personal and career development.



Major/Essential Functions
  • Teach online undergraduate and/or micro credentialing courses in Legal Studies within the School of Professional Studies degree program.
  • Develop and/or maintain engaging online course content aligned with departmental learning outcomes, institutional standards, and best practices in online education.
  • Facilitate student learning through regular instructor presence, timely communication, substantive feedback, and meaningful interaction within the online learning environment.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance using established grading criteria, rubrics, and assessment methodologies.
  • Support student success by maintaining accessibility, professionalism, and responsiveness to student questions and concerns.
  • Maintain accurate course records, attendance verification, grading documentation, and other required academic reporting in accordance with university policies and deadlines.
  • Utilize university supported instructional technologies, learning management systems, and digital educational tools to deliver course content and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training opportunities, assessment activities, curriculum discussions, and other service-related functions as requested.
  • Remain current in the discipline of Legal Studies and in emerging trends, legal developments, instructional technologies, and best practices in online teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative academic environment that supports the mission and strategic goals of the university and the School of Professional Studies.


Faculty Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), master's degree, or other appropriate graduate degree in Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated professional, academic, or applied experience in legal studies, law, compliance, public policy, criminal justice, or a related discipline.
  • Strong written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with student populations, including adult and non-traditional learners.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior online teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Experience teaching asynchronous online courses in an accelerated term format.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, or similar platforms.
  • Experience developing online curriculum, assessments, or micro credentialing content.
  • Practical legal or regulatory experience in areas such as tort law, criminal law, contracts, compliance, employment law, administrative law, or related fields.
  • Experience incorporating real world legal scenarios, case analysis, and critical thinking exercises into instruction.
