Purpose of Position
Under general supervision this position assists in providing professional legal support and assistance with various legal inquires and requests, and assists in reducing exposure to legal risks by providing sound advice and direction.

Essential Functions
Serves as support in drafting and executing legal documents by creating preliminary drafts of legal documents and correspondence; identifies legal, quasi-legal, and factual questions that may merit research; creates and executes final drafts of more routine legal documents and correspondence.

Assists, reviews and advises the office of Human Resource Employee relations department on disciplinary actions to include, written, suspension and terminations.

Assists, prepares and analyzes contracts to assure that they adequately protect the University's interests.

Assists with review of requests for information under state and federal laws to determine whether requested information is available to the requestor.

Assists, reviews and interprets University policies, procedures, handbooks, and other documents for legal implications and recommends revisions where necessary or advisable.

Assists with coordination in the University's defense in litigation filed, legal matters between support organizations, and responses to liability claims, as assigned.

Assists and performs research on a variety of issues involving higher education law, health law, and other areas of law in response to requests and claims.

Assists in serving as an information resource for staff and officials regarding pending, recent or historical legislative actions.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties as may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Law Degree (Juris Doctorate (J.D.) / or equivalent).

One year legal experience. Admitted or eligible to be licensed to practice law.

Occasional traveling required.
